India’s coronavirus tally has surged to 73.7 lakh cases after a fresh spike of 67,708 COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, the government data showed this morning.
The number of fatalities stood at 1,11,266 after 680 deaths were registered in a day. The death rate is 1.5 per cent.
This is the lowest number of people who have succumbed to the disease since July 28 (654). The country’s one-day deaths were in the 800-900 range for the last two months.
About 63.8 lakh patients in the country have so far recovered from COVID-19; 81,514 patients have recovered since yesterday pushing its recovery rate to 87.4 per cent.
India now has 8.12 lakh active cases and a daily positivity rate of 6 per cent as India conducted more than 11.3 lakh tests in the last 24 hours, and more than 9.1 crore tests on the whole till now.
India remains the second worst affected country in the world behind the Unites States, which has 79.1 lakh coronavirus cases with more than 2 lakh deaths.
